About Halverstown Cricket Club

Since 1885, keeping cricket alive in County Kildare

Our Legacy

The exact origins of Halverstown Cricket Club may be lost to time, but our badge proudly bears the year 1885—and who are we to argue? What is certain is that Halverstown is the oldest continuously running cricket club outside of Dublin, with a heritage rooted deep in the heart of County Kildare.

Founded near Old Kilcullen, the club has laid its wicket on several grounds over the decades, always remaining loyal to its roots and passion for the game. For the past 23 years, we've called one of Ireland’s most scenic cricket settings our home—tucked just beyond a discreet gap in the stone wall of the historic Harristown Estate in Brannockstown. Venture through, and you'll find a hidden oasis where cricket is played under the shade of ancient oaks and broad-leafed trees, just steps from the banks of the River Liffey.

Thanks to the enduring support of the Beaumont family, Halverstown is one of only two clubs still flying the flag for cricket in County Kildare—a county that once boasted 27 clubs, though still a few behind Kilkenny’s incredible 50 in the 1890s.

Today, Halverstown fields three senior teams:

  • Halverstown 1 and Halverstown 2, competing in Divisions 12 and 19 of the Leinster League
  • Halverstown Oaks, our social and friendly side, named in honour of the majestic trees that line our ground

We’re also proud to nurture the next generation through our vibrant youth setup, the Halverstown Acorns. Many of our under-11, under-13, and under-15 boys and girls have come up through our Summer Camps, keeping the spirit of the club alive and thriving.

Our club crest tells our story: the oak leaf from the Kildare coat of arms, the River Liffey, and our founding year of 1885, all set against a yellow background taken from the arms of the Purcell family, whose Halverstown House once watched over our earliest matches.
